We've long contended that our spices are for more than food and make excellent additions to drinks. We are finally putting a recipe where our mouths are!
This is our twist on a mojito that adds some spice to the sweetness. This recipe is for a single serving, but you can multiply it in order to make a pitcher of these cocktails and save yourself a little time.
You'll need a highball or other strong glass and a muddler.
The Cuban Rama
- 1/4 of a fresh lime cut into thin wedges
- 2 sprigs of fresh mint (10-15 leaves)
- 1/4 tsp. No. 4
- 1 Tbsp. Turbinado sugar
- 1 ounce golden rum (like Mount Gay)
- 6-8 ounces sparkling water
- 1/2 ounce Gosling's Black Rum
In your glass, muddle together the lime wedges and mint leaves. Add in Rubarama and sugar and muddle further. Almost fill the glass with ice and pour rum and sparkling water over ice, leaving room for the black rum. Gently stir and let rest for a moment. Add the Gosling's Black Rum slowly as a float and garnish with a sprig of mint.
Note: You can substitute white rum for golden. As well, you can use white cane/table sugar, but we find that the larger crystals of Turbinado (popularly known as Sugar in the Raw) help muddle better.
